The release of Hollow Knight: Silksong, the much-anticipated sequel to 2017’s Hollow Knight, has been postponed. Team Cherry’s marketing and publishing representative, Matthew Griffin, announced the delay on Twitter, explaining, “We had planned to release in the first half of 2023, but development is still continuing.”

While this delay may disappoint fans who are eagerly awaiting the next chapter in the Hollow Knight saga, Griffin reassured everyone that the extra time is necessary to make the game “as good as [they] can.” He also mentioned that Silksong has “grown quite large,” and the team is thrilled with the game’s current progress. Although this means a longer wait for what was once one of the most eagerly awaited titles of 2020, there’s optimism that the final product will be worth it.

Hollow Knight: Silksong was first unveiled in 2019 and has been in development for nearly five years. Throughout much of this period, Team Cherry has kept details about the game’s content, scope, and release date under wraps. However, during the 2022 Xbox & Bethesda Games Showcase, fans were treated to a gameplay preview, a tentative release window, and the exciting announcement that the game would be available on Xbox Game Pass on day one. Shortly afterward, Sony confirmed that Silksong would also be released on PlayStation consoles.

In Hollow Knight: Silksong, players will embark on a new adventure with Hornet, a beloved NPC from the original game, as she sets out on a journey of her own. Although no new release window has been announced following the delay, Team Cherry has confirmed that the game will be available on all major platforms, including consoles, PC, and Mac, upon its release.
